Star Trek: Spock - Reflections IDW mini-series

#1 Jul 2009

Two passengers, one talkative, the other silent, await news that their transport has crossed the Romulan Neutral Zone into Federation space. While the loquacious traveler prattles on, the other, a quiet Vulcan, reflects on past events of his life: a brief visit with Captain Harriman aboard the Enterprise after the death Captain Kirk, and further back in time to his youth, when he struggled to understand his place in Vulcan society. We also learn that the Vulcan went to Romulus to teach and is now on his way to Earth.

Spock's fellow passenger, a Saurian, simply can't remain silent. Spock is polite, but inattentive, because every other question or comment from the Saurian provokes a poignant memory of the past: an awkward moment with Dr. Christine Chapel, some time after she received her medical degree, and a mission with Captain Pike, who ignores logic and risks his life to save Spock. Finally, Spock tells the Saurian that he is traveling to Earth because he received disturbing news. Picard sent a message to Romulus for Spock about the return and passing of an old friend.

#3 Sep 2009

Spock's transport arrives at Deep Space Station E-5, the midpoint of his journey. Parting with his loquacious Saurian friend triggers a vivid memory of a past arrival on Vulcan and a brief visit with T'Pring, long after their koon-ut-kal-if-fee. Spock boards the ship which will take him to his final destination, the third planet of the Veridian system. As the last leg of his trip begins, another memory of Kirk and personal sacrifice surfaces. Finally, on Veridian III, Spock visits the resting place of his friend, recalls the personal message from Captain Picard, detailing the final moments of James Kirk, and takes a moment of silence.

#4 Oct 2009

After programming the navicomputer of his transport with a route to Earth that bypasses Starfleet patrols and listening posts, Spock reflects on what it means to be a Vulcan. Lt. Saavik is on the bridge of the Kobayashi Maru. She gives orders to dump the warp core and seven crew members die, prompting a dressing down from a shipmate. Later on she confides her bewilderment to Spock. He reminds her that not everything is a matter of logic. After transporting to Earth's surface, the cargo he brought home, for the most illogical of reasons, is transported beneath the surface, and Spock is surprised by a visit from a friend, before returning to Romulus to resume his work.

Solicitation: Ambassador Spock has returned to Earth - but why?! The answers may lie in another previously untold tale from Spock's life, starring Lt. Saavik, of Wrath of Khan fame! The secret behind Spock's journey is revealed here!
