Antarctic Press editor Ben Dunn met Atelier Lana (real name Kazuaki Ishida) at Comicket, a semiannual dôjinshi convention in Tokyo, Japan, in the 1990's. Dôjinshi are self-published print works. Lana was the creator of Dengeki, a fanzine first published in 1985, with story and art following the mis-adventures of Captain Nakajima of the starship Constellation II. Dunn arranged to reprint the story in the US, renaming it "Star Trekker". The graphic novel was published to wide acclaim, giving Dunn the confidence to continue with the remaining material as a series. However, Paramount sent a cease and desist letter just as the first two issues were to be released. Antarctic Press had to pull back all the issues and destroy the remaining inventory. Some copies of Star Trekker II #1 and #2 did go out on the secondary market.
